December '10 •If you're New Year’s resolution is to clean your horn more often (or at all...), perhaps you should start off the New Year with an Ultrasonic Cleaning! Our Ultrasonic Cleaning uses sound vibrations and a mild detergent to clean your brass instrument instead of a chem clean that is harsh and pollutes the environment. The cleaning is done by our professional repairman, Stephan Garmon, and will get your horn as clean (probably cleaner!) than the day you bought it. Ship your horn to us or stop by. Ultrasonic Cleanings are $65 for Trumpets, $75 for Trombones, and $85 for Euphoniums.

Radegundis Feitosa Nuñez, excellent trombonist, and friend of the store, passed away in a car accident on July 1st. Feitosa Nuñez was a Brazilian trombone quintet member and a professor of music. He will be greatly missed by not only us at the store, but all of his colleagues, friends, and family. Our thoughts go out to all that have been influenced by this tragic loss.

On May 22nd and 33rd, Dave Monette, Charles Schlueter, Adam Rapa, and Karen Hangsterfer were in Omaha for a Thompson Music Trumpet Weekend. The events on Saturday, the 22nd, were held at The University of Nebraska at Omaha. Masterclasses with Monette, Rapa, and Schlueter were offered followed by a free concert in which all four visitors performed. Sunday, the 23rd, was held at the store. Private Lessons were offered with Schlueter, Rapa, and Hangsterfer. 10 lucky attendees were chosen to receive a free Monette Mouthpiece. Ms. Hangsterfer held Breathing for Brass Players yoga-style courses, while Rebecca, Mike, and Dave Monette gave trumpet consultations. Overall, the Trumpet Weekend was a huge success and the attendees were glad they came out to enjoy it. Photos of the event can be seen here.

Schilke Music Products introduced their new HD Bb Trumpets and HD C Trumpets at this year’s International Trumpet Guild Conference in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Mike tested these horns and was very impressed with Schilke’s first C trumpet designed for big orchestral work. Reserve yours now! The first production will be available in late fall.

The Jim Manley and K.O. Skinsnes masterclass was a great success! Jim Manley, a freelance jazz lead trumpeter from the St. Louis area, led a masterclass called "Playing the Trumpet is Supposed to be Fun!" He surprised everyone with his combination of extremely powerful playing and a "less air" mantra, revealing a unique pedagogical approach and inspiring those in attendance to rethink many received notions of trumpet technique---and to practice! K.O. Skinsnes, acoustic engineer and instrument designer at Stomvi USA and founder of The Brass Spa, gave an enlightening presentation on equipment optimization, explaining and demonstrating the V~Raptor trumpets of his own design. The evening finished with an impressive concert featuring Jim and other local Omaha musicians. We had a great turn out for the event, drawing an audience from the Omaha community and throughout the Midwest. This event also marked our status as the only US dealer of the V~Raptor and VRII trumpets.
